There are a lot of individuals exploring the theme of Digital Light, although they may not call it that. Sometimes it’s mainstream to their work and sometimes it’s just a beautiful byproduct.

I had a chance to briefly chat with Filiz Klassen after a speech I gave on Digital Light at Ryerson University in Toronto earlier this year. She’s an associate professor in the Faculty of Communications and Design there. She told me about some experimental work she had done with integrating electronic light and building materials in a way that responds and reacts to the weather, or in her words:

Malleable Matter: Material Innovations in Architecture that involves prototypes in the creation of building skins that respond to weather elements.”

She let me have a copy of a book and DVD illustrating her work. It’s subtle and beautiful. Check out her work at http://www.ryerson.ca/malleablematter/projects.html
